Fostering Dialogue Skills in Students

A half-day training for faculty and staff who want to make dialogue a key component of their course or programming.

Overview

This four-hour training prepares instructors and staff with strategies and tools to make dialogue a key component of their course or co-curricular learning environment. The session covers the skills associated with leading in a dialogue-focused setting. Faculty and staff who complete this course will learn about the PSI approach, a model created by CDI that gives facilitators a framework for preparing students for dialogue, supporting them amid dialogue, and intervening if the conversation needs de-escalation.

Objectives

  • Gain strategies to create a culture of trust for dialogue

  • Examine different ways to support student use of dialogue

  • Learn how to and best practices for intervening in moments of conflict

Eliza is an educator, dialogue facilitator, and curriculum writer. Inherently, her work has centered around bringing communities who might never meet together to forge connections and learn from differences.
